The registry is the most dangerous part of your system
because it contains all the settings required for many applications
and all the settings for Windows operating system. When you make a mistake in the registry,
it’s often impossible to recover. A few settings are so important
that the system won’t start in any mode, not even Safe mode. Failure
to follow the rules when working with the registry can mean starting
from scratch by formatting the hard drive and reinstalling Windows.
Once you gain some experience with Windows computer system, you might
discover a need to make a change to the registry based on a Microsoft
Knowledge Base article. Make sure you understand the change completely
and read the “Using the Registry Editor” section of Chapter 6 before
you do anything. I would highly recommend asking an experienced user
to help you make several registry changes before going solo.
